Tell us little about how you met, the history, the proposal!
We met at a christmas BBQ with mutual friends, it was very unexpected.
How did you find the wedding planning process? Any tips and tricks you’d like to pass on to others trying to navigate wedding planning?
We self managed the entire wedding. This was held at the family farm, so not like your typical wedding where a venue has all amenities onsite and are set up for regular weddings. We had to replicate a commercial kitchen onsite, sourced the use of a generator and temporary toilet amenities plus the big ticket item being the tipis from Bluebird.
We had a lot of help from those close to us - family and friends with those who catered and worked on the day all being close to us or having had connections through family or grown up with family. The theme was to replicate your typical family roast catchup. This was to be as relaxed as possible with minimal formalities.
The key for us was forward thinking as much as possible, if you are going to self manage your wedding at home or at a venue that doesn’t typically host weddings, perhaps visit a venue that does or if you attend another wedding, take note of all the things you see that are necessary at a wedding. In particular the back of house operations/requirements you might not normally take notice of. We were lucky in that close friends of ours were getting married a few weeks before us. Craig was in the bridal party and had a bit of behind the scenes access on the day of their wedding. Craig was touring the venue, inspecting the goings on in the kitchen, interacting with the staff and sussing out as much as he could so we knew we had covered off on everything we needed to for ours.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help or ask questions of the suppliers you are working with. They are experienced and see weddings often and always have ideas, good contacts, and can recommend you to other suppliers etc.
What was most important to you to include in your day? Was there anything personal you wanted to highlight?
We wanted the day to replicate us as much as possible - RELAXED and FAMILY orientated. This was the most important thing to us. We made the day slightly longer than a typical wedding as we didn’t want it to be rushed or feel like our closest people were not able to get around and see each other nor us them. It similarly allowed for those guests with kids, and our daughter, to attend and enjoy themselves for a decent amount of time before needing to head off to put the little ones to bed.
Our inspiration as mentioned above was a family roast which holds a special place in our lives and is something we do regularly.

Being with our closest people to celebrate our special day.
The lightning storm during our speeches was also quite spectacular and many guests continue to comment on how magnificent it looked. Particularly looking out from under the double tipi! Just magical.
